Why We All Should Find a Local Art Camp and Sign Our Kids Up!

I am not sure about all of you, but I love summer - the sun, the BBQs, the kids home…but every now and again it is nice to have a break from each other. Summer camps are a great way to do just that! Summer is a great time for camps and camps are a terrific way for kids to explore new things, learn more independence, explore their own interests, make some new friends and keep your kids' brains and bodies active.

When it comes to finding the right summer camp for your kids, there are a lot of options to choose from. But if you're looking for a camp that will help your child explore their creativity and have a blast doing it, then an art camp is the perfect choice! Here's why art camps are great for kids:

Your child will get to try out new mediums and styles. At art camp, kids will have the chance to experiment with lots of different kinds of art supplies and techniques. This is a great way for them to find out what they like best and develop their own style.

  • They'll meet other kids who love Art too. At art camp, your child will be surrounded by other kids who share their love of creativity.

  • Kids will learn to make mistakes and that mistakes can become beautiful works of art!

  • Students of art camps learn valuable lessons that will continue to be helpful in their other studies as well.

Tupperberry uses a variety of art mediums, we definitely use the typical paint and crayons, but we also make use of clay and recycled materials such as cups and boxes. Students learn that art is everywhere and anything can be art. We combine art lessons with art projects and students learn while having fun creating.

We often go to school with and play sports or join clubs with the same kids in our schools, it’s become harder to meet new people. Meeting kids from other schools is a valuable life lesson about learning to meet new and different people, but the great thing is that they all have an interest in art to bind them. We have seen even the shyest of students grow and emerge from their shells when getting to share their love of art and creativity with each other.

In life there are mistakes and in art there are mistakes that can be transformed. Another great life lesson about dealing with missteps and how to think outside the box to fix them. Maybe you drop a little color on your background, well then we can think outside the box and make it a balloon that your character is holding, or we splatter the entire background! Creativity allows kids to learn to create a fix for their mistakes which is important in art and life.

The techniques and lessons we teach in art class can carry over into other parts of life and this is why art and art camp can be such an invaluable week or two or even month of your child’s summer. We have seen students who continue to use their learned knowledge of shadowing to help them create amazing posters for their speeches in class or banners when running for office in high school! We have seen students who worry about mistakes in the beginning just go with the flow and brainstorm a solution to fix small art messes on their canvases. So, what are you waiting for?
