Cartoon Factory Class and Anime

If you have a child, there's a good chance that your student is familiar with anime. And if you're not familiar with the genre, you may be wondering what all the fuss is about. Anime is a type of Japanese animation that has become wildly popular in America in recent years. Students love to create their own anime characters and stories, and many schools even offer anime clubs as extracurricular activities. Tupperberry is excited to bring anime to students via our Cartoon Factory class.

What is Anime?

Anime is a form of Japanese animation that has been around since the early 1900s. In recent years, it has gained popularity in the United States among young students. People argue that anime is a good influence on kids because it teaches them about different cultures and encourages them to be creative.

Anime has become increasingly popular in recent years, and not just among kids. American students of all ages are watching anime- shows like Attack on Titan, Naruto, and Sailor Moon- and many are even getting interested in learning Japanese so they can watch without subtitles as well as learning about the art form of anime and how to draw characters.

What makes Anime and Cartoons different?

Anime differs from traditional American cartoons in a few ways:

  1. The eyes in anime tend to have larger eyes with lots of light in them to make them more expressive and the eyelashes tend to be thicker and simpler therefore placing more emphasis on the expressive eyes.

  2. Exaggerated facial expressions are also common in anime, using the mouth size to show how strong the emotion of the character is.

  3. The proportions in anime are also varied. Depending on the anime topic, sizes are either typical or exaggerated to be elongated to create a look that some people liken them to elves.

  4. Hair in anime is also used to create unique characters. Different colored hair and unique hair shapes add to the fun of anime characters.

Students will learn how to use these differences to create their own anime-styled art in our class. We will work on showing expression in facial features and also work on proportions in drawings. Students will be excited to show off their very own anime characters.

Anime is gaining traction all over the world and with American students specifically. If your student is interested in learning a new form of art, anime drawing classes are a great option. Our new class offers step-by-step instructions on how to create beautiful anime drawings. With this class, your student will learn the basics of proportion, shading, and line work—all essential skills for mastering this unique genre of art. What are you waiting for?
